名詞解釋： 資訊搜尋之不確定性（uncertainty）為人類資訊搜尋經驗中之必要特質。在搜尋資訊的經驗裡存在著不確定的事物，而其中的模糊、疑惑與難以抉擇性，反倒能引起新觀念與新想法的產生。Kuhlthau指出人類資訊尋求過程（information search process）中涵蓋感覺（feelings）、想法（thoughts）、行動（actions） 層面之反應。資訊之尋求通常與個人面對一個亟待解決之問題或任務而產生資訊尋求的內在心理反應有關。個人處於問題解決過程的不同階段所產生資訊搜尋不確定性之內在心理反應，涵蓋：感情不確定性（affective uncertainty） 與認知不確定性（cognitive uncertainty）。總而言之，資訊搜尋不確定性原則（uncertainty principle）指出人們對於資訊搜尋任務或問題解決途徑的不確定，或個人對於不一致或不相合資訊之解讀、選取與創造，易導致不確定、困惑、焦慮甚至威脅感的產生。此一原則提供了圖書資訊服務一個概念架框。圖書資訊服務因應個人資訊搜尋與問題解決的不確定狀況，提供必要的服務能夠降低人們不確定的程度，以幫助搜尋所需資訊並達成解決問題之目的。 Anderson, T.
