名詞解釋： 社區圖書館服務係指由個人或機構設置圖書館提供館藏供民眾利用，並由個人或機構所管理，其模式無論是閱覽室、小型簡便圖書館或行動圖書館，皆旨在縮短社區民眾獲取閱讀材料及資訊之落差。例如：印尼於1970及1980年代藉由社區圖書館服務彌補公共圖書館數量之不足。以印尼Yayasan Pustaka Kelana（Wondering Book Foundation）為例，該非營利教育基金會係由教師及專家合作設立，透過行動書車將書籍送至社區中心、學校等地區，提供兒童及青少年印尼語及英語閱讀材料，藉此培養兒童及青少年閱讀習慣並協助該族群獲取讀物。此外，亦出借書箱予機構、學校或成人，藉以提供兒童及青少年利用。美國蒙大拿州（Montana）West Shore Community Library亦為一透過個人、團體、基金會及其他組織捐款、捐贈及補助以營運之非營利組織，其係由志工提供服務以維持運作，並由屬於志願性質之圖書館董事會管理。該館除提供受贈圖書外，亦採購新書、提供視聽資料及與該州相關之主題館藏，並提供雜誌交換、電腦與無線網路供民眾使用，以及辦理兒童閱讀活動及電腦課程等。另外，於2011年獲得志願服務女皇獎（Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service）之英國白金漢郡（Buckinghamshire）Little Chalfont Community Library，係英國白金漢郡第一個社區圖書館。該館前身係政府經營之圖書館，社區為挽救該館免於閉館，於2007年2月改由社區獨立經營，完全由未支領薪資之志工管理運作，營運成本來自捐款、補助及募款。該館提供小說、非小說、期刊、報紙、大字書及有聲書、電腦及無線網路，並為學齡前兒童辦理活動及為成人開設電腦素養相關課程。其他亦有部分社區圖書館服務旨在為特定讀者提供服務，例如：為位於戰爭地區、貧民地區或偏遠地區之民眾服務。 Kamil, H.
